Enrollment Process
The process of enrollment at SMCS is as follows:Step One: A complete application submitted to the Admissions Committee includes the following:
- Application For Admission and Registration Fee
- Written personal testimonies of parents
- Statement of Cooperation
- Permissions Form
- Student Questionnaire for students entering grades 6-12
- Copy of transcript, standardized test results, etc. as requested on the School Administrator Recommendation form. Upon acceptance, SMCS will send for the official documents on the basis of a signed Permission for Release of Records form. A copy of the student’s most recent report card and prior year report card may suffice for initial consideration.
- Proof of age (copy of birth certificate). Please note that High School students who participate in any sport must present the student’s original birth certificate to the Athletic Office.
- Current Alabama Immunization Form IMM-50 (known affectionately as the "Blue Form") before the first day of school.
- Permission for Release of Records
Step 2: The following should be sent directly to SMCS by others for students entering grades 1-12:
- School Administrator Recommendation
- School Teacher Recommendation
- Pastor/Sunday School Teacher Recommendation
Step 3: The parents and student will interview with a member of the Administrative Team. It is preferred that the Application and as many of the above-mentioned forms be received prior to the interview.
Step 4: Academic testing may be required for acceptance to 1st through 12th grades. If testing is required then a $50 testing fee for the first child and a $35 testing fee for each additional child. The tests are scheduled as needed to expedite the application process.
Step 5: After the interview and the receipt of all the necessary forms, documents and registration fee, the Admissions Committee will respond to the parents within two weeks. All students enrolled must have their files complete and accounts current to begin school the first day. Click here to access each of the forms you will need to complete the enrollment process.
Additional Notes:
- K3 students must be three years old on or before September 1st and potty trained. K4 students must be four years old on or before September 1st. K5 students must be five years old on or before September 1st. First grade students must be six years old on or before September 1st.
- Students will not be considered for admission to SMCS who have been expelled or withdrawn from other schools for disciplinary or academic reasons and/or have a history of the following: drug or alcohol related issues, aggressive, abusive, or disrespectful behavior, sexually immoral behavior, or inability or unwillingness to perform academically at grade level.
- The school does not replace the home or the church. All three should be complimentary, which means that home, school, and church should be in agreement with biblical philosophy and teaching. Therefore, the school partners with born again, Bible believing, Christ honoring parents in the education of their children. It is a requirement that at least one parent has personally received Jesus Christ as his or her Savior and Lord.
- Within the context of its theological convictions and mission, Shades Mountain Christian School admits students of any race, color, gender, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities made available to students at the school. Any student is admitted when all entrance requirements are met.
- Each new student is placed on a nine week probation period to ensure the success of the student academically and behaviorally. During this probationary period the student is considered a student in good standing with all the rights and privileges attributed to members of SMCS.
