Kindergarten and Lower Elementary

These grade-level descriptions offer a snapshot of each lower level grade offered at Heritage Christian Academy:


Utilize the A BEKA Curriculum and hands-on activities to encourage learning to play and work together. Each year the reading curriculum is enhanced while building on integrating short stories and easy chapter books.   

A few of the enrichment activities include Dr. Seuss’ birthday, build-a-bear workshop, pumpkin patch, McWane Center and the Birmingham Zoo;  K5 culminates with a graduation ceremony and a cap and gown processional

Lower Elementary

Continued development of language and reading and writing skills;  Manuscript writing begins in 2nd grade; Increased levels of autonomy is encouraged and practiced during this time in preparation for transition to upper elementary (4th grade);  

Students participate in career week in 1st and “Amerikids” highlighting patriotism in 2nd. As part of science, 3rd graders research a specific animal and offers a unique presentation called “Animal Day”.  Each student is in a “simulated museum” and dresses as their animal as spectators come by and hear a “speech” of interesting facts about their chosen animal.
