Upper School - Grades 7 - 12
SMCS offers a challenging curriculum where students are encouraged, supported, and equipped to grow spiritually and educationally. Opportunities for spiritual growth and maturation are offered in the classroom, chapel and through community service. Innovative technology is infused in classroom instruction as well as throughout student learning. A few departmental highlights include:
English: Purposeful and guided writing program from 7th - 12th; Honors classes for freshmen and sophomores; dual enrollment for juniors and seniors; Writer’s Bowl; Disney Youth Education Workshops
Math: Smooth transition from 6th to 7th grade; small class sizes for individualized instruction; challenging curriculum; math offered to the AP Calculus level.
Social Studies: Focused on teaching thinking skills, and reading and writing development; students given real world encounters that deal with economics, government, and politics; addition of AP US History.
Science: Flexibility to place students in courses to enhance skills needed in future career paths; Incorporate science-based inquiry learning; Disney Youth Science Workshop and Marine Science Adventures; Upper level courses such as Human Physiology, Physics, and AP Biology.
